PhD confusion

If I am doing my PG through distance learning, could I do my PhD in regular mode? After PG through distance mode, could I do PhD from distance mode?
Amit Kumar

After doing your PG via distance learning, you are eligible to take up a regular PhD programme in regular mode provided you secure 55% (GM) at the PG level. You need to take up the entrance examination for taking up the PhD course, notification for which normally appears during August/ September.

CA query

My son has completed his BCom in first class this year and his preliminary entrance exam for the Chartered Accountant’s (CA) course. He is working since 2 months as an articled intern in a private CA’s office. Can he attend evening coaching centres for his PCC exam? Please give details.

Radhakrishna

The professional competency course (PCC) is the first stage of a chartered accountant’s programme for which students should have either qualified in the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) or graduated from a recognized university. PCC requires the student to undergo compulsory Articleship training with a practising CA for a period of three and a half years. This programme gives theoretical knowledge as well as practical training simultaneously.

Your son has moved in the right direction and he can definitely attend evening coaching centres to study for his PCC exam. The Bangalore Chapter of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at No. 16/0, Millers Tank Bed Area, Bangalore-560052 (Phone: 22257109/ 22205891) conducts coaching classes from 7.30am-9.30 am and 6pm-8pm. For enrolment, you can approach the institute with two photographs. There are other private coaching institutions also.

Attending coaching classes is optional, but your son has to compulsorily take up the Information Technology Training (ITT) at the Institute which is mandatory. The training is imparted for 20 days and a student must devote 5 hours every day for completion. Students are considered on duty for 100 hours of ITT for which a three-hour examination is held to check their understanding of the relevance of ITT to CA course.
