NEW DELHI: Indian Railways have posted 13.87% growth in its revenue to Rs 57,863.90 crore during April-December this fiscal. The total revenue earnings from goods went up by 14.53% to Rs 39,085.22 crore during this period.
"The total passenger revenue earnings during first nine months of the financial year 2008-09 stood at Rs 16,242.44 crore compared to Rs 14,526.36 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.81%," an Indian Railways statement said.
Nearly 5319.87 million passengers booked their tickets during April-December, up 6.60% as against 4,990.41 million passengers during the same period last year.
In the suburban and non-suburban areas, the number of passengers booked during April-December was 2837.21 million and 2482.66 million compared to 2748.11 million and 2242.30 million during the same period last year, an increase of 3.24% and 10.72% respectively.
